I had the BEST plans for this Independence Day weekend. I decided last year to take the weekend off as a little mid-summer respite. My son, husband, and I would take the long trek out to our in-law’s house and enjoy a fun-filled weekend of swimming, boating, and enjoying good times with family and friends!
What am I really doing this weekend? I’m on the couch, on my back, and dizzily medicated due to a pinched nerve (they think) in my lower back. Vacation plans thwarted. Bleh. :/
So, after I threw my pity party, I decided I’d make good use of this down time and catch up on some of the magazines, online articles, DVR’d shows, and Craftsy classes I’d been collecting (aka hoarding) these past few cake-filled months.
On the DVR I’m catching up on CBS Sunday Morning, Cook’s Country, Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, Martha Bakes, and Julia & Jacques Cooking at Home. My magazine backlog includes Real Simple, Brides, and more Martha – Living and Weddings. Hmmm, food and weddings, time to broaden my horizons, maybe? Lol!
My collection of unwatched Craftsy classes is probably too (embarrassingly) long to list. Here are just a few that I’ll be catching up on this weekend. And, of course, with discounted links! Hey, if I’m laid-up, might as well share some love with my friends!
I hope you’re all happy and healthy this holiday weekend! Have a cold one and a hamburger for me. 🙂
xoxo,
Erin

Lambeth is completely foreign to me, but something I’d love to work into my decorating repertoire. And who better to learn from than the legendary Wendy Kromer?

Allison is a cake-buddy of mine and I’ve always admired her signature modular style. Besides learning new techniques, I love gaining insight into another artist’s process and perspective.

My clients typically come to me for wedding cakes and sugar flowers, but my most important client – my 3 year old son – is starting to make cake requests! Oddly enough he’s not all that into sugar flowers. 😉 This class with Lauren Kitchens is a great way to get started with simple, impressive, awe-inspiring cakes. I’m already scheming a cake of a floating box spilling out lego blocks!

This is one of those classes that an experienced decorator might mistakenly pass by. It’s so much more than monograms! It’s tips, tricks, and lots of insight from master sugar artist Nicholas Lodge. Just when you thought you knew everything about lettering, you don’t!

I have always struggled with life-like figure modeling, but it’s one of those things that clients just love. Brenda has it down to a science and shares that knowledge with us in this class. Lucky us!

Along with Lambeth, string work is something that I don’t use regularly, but would love to work on. Toba is a wonderful teacher and makes this sometimes tricky skill look oh-so-easy.

Hey Erin,
best wishes and a speedy recovery from Germany. I took your craftsy classes and I am a big fan of your work, both your teaching and your cakes.
Hope you get well soon. Cant wait to see more of your cakes and maybe another class at craftsy.
Monika
Thank you Monika! I’ll be heading back to Craftsy very soon! Look for a new class from me sometime this fall. xoxo
I just suffered from a pinched nerve while working a big order. I was in tears it was so painful. It took a few days but it gets better so I’m hoping the same for you! I love your Craftsy class, it the first one I bought in awhile because I rarely have enough time to sit and watch them. I watched yours in one day!! Can’t wait to see what you produce next!
You’re too sweet! Thank you so much. 🙂
